Rear Suspension Support

Towing or hauling a heavy load can cause rear sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the weight of your vehicle. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

Installed spring when it is not compressed

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The closed-cell urethane material allows for smooth contact between the springs and your vehicle. And the springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

Installed spring when it is compressed

The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

The helper springs are custom designed to fit your vehicle, and they install easily - no drilling required.

  • Extra Ride Support for 2006 GMC Canyon 4WD Towing Trailer
Helper springs kits are designed to suspend weight carried in the cargo area of the vehicle, such as your truck bed. If you're towing a trailer and want to counteract rear end squat caused by the tongue weight of a trailer being applied to the hitch, a weight distribution system would be a more effective choice. To choose a weight distribution system, you'll need to first determine the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer. To that figure, add the weight of any gear...

  • Weight Distribution System Set-up and Tow Vehicle Height
Thanks for the photo and thorough explanation of what is happening with your Husky Centerline # HT32218. Since your truck and trailer are sitting within 1-2 inches of level you are good as long as you are comfortable driving. It sounds like you like having the tongue weight a little heavier for steering and that is fine. The tow vehicle having a 1/4 rise in the front isn't too bad and you won't lose much visually from the different angle of your head lights. Because you are so close...

  • How to Help a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 with Rear End Sag
In order to help keep the rear end of your 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 from sagging while towing or hauling your four wheeler I recommend using the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-209-40. This spring will replace the factory jounce spring that you have on your truck and provide you with a cushion between the frame and rear axle that will help to alleviate some of the rear end sag you have while towing or hauling. The best option about this system is that it will not affect ride...

  • Comparing SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs for a 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500
There are three different SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Spring options for a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The difference is indeed weight capacity; part # SSR-209-40 for 1,000 lbs, part # SS95MR for 1,500 lbs, and part # SS45MR for 2,800 lbs. The part # SS95MR for 1,500 lbs would be a great option for your setup and what I recommend.

  • Should there be a Gap Between Axle and SumoSprings on 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500
It isn't uncommon to have some space between the SuperSprings # SSR-209-40 and the strike plate they make contact with when under load. Many of the installations shown in the instructions, linked for reference, also show a gap. You can close that gap a little by using the urethane spacers that came with the kit.

  • Difference Between SumoSprings Solo Kits for 2017 Chevy Silverado 4WD
Hey Dean, so the big difference is the capacity of the two SumoSprings kits # SSR-209-40 and # SS45MR that fit your 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500. The part # SS45MR has a 2,800 lb weight capacity and the # SSR-209-40 is 1,000 lb. The higher the capacity the more support but the higher the chance the ride quality might suffer or be harsh. So depending on how bad you need the additional support is how you'd pick between the two.

  • Is It Okay for the SumoSprings To Sit On the Axle With Truck Unloaded
The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs like part # SSR-209-40 can be in contact with the jounce spring contact point without a load present. Depending on which kit you have, there is sometimes a spacer that will allow you to have either a slight gap or the spring will be in contact with the contact point. The presence of a gap or lack thereof is usually explained in the instructions for your exact kit.

  • How to Determine If SumoSprings Can Be Used on a Lifted Truck
In order to determine if you can use the SumoSprings # SSR-209-40 or not you will need to measure where your factory bump stomp sits and measure the distance between there and the axle. This particular # SSR-209-40 comes with a 1/2" spacer and is approximately 6" long, and you'll want around 1" between the spring and the axle when the vehicle is unloaded. If you can measure that and let me know what type of space you've got between those two points, I can let you know if you can use spacers...

  • Solution for Soft Rear Suspension of 2019 Chevy Silverado When Towing With Weight Distribution
The problem you are having is pretty common with newer 1/2 ton trucks. Due to consumer complaints about the harsh ride, the manufacturers have made the rear suspension more supple which is fine unless you're trying to tow. A product like the easy to instsall SumoSprings # SS65FR would very likely be a good solution for you, but you'll need to take a measurement to determine if they'd work for you. The SumoSpring # SS65FR is about 5 inches tall, or 6 inches tall if the included 1 inch...

  • SumoSpring Helper Springs for a 2012 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4
For the SumoSprings # SSR-209-40 for your 2012 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 the springs will reach their 1,000 pound capacity at 50 percent compression. That means that there could still be some squat until the spring compress enough to stop it. But at the same time you are using weight distribution which will also work to prevent sag. So when all is said and done the 1,000 springs should do the trick.

  • Ride Height of the Sumo Springs Solo Custom Helper Springs
By design, the Sumo Springs Solo Custom Helper Springs, part # SSR-209-40, don't normally affect your ride height. However, there are some applications where there will be contact with the springs just because of the distance from the frame to the suspension. In these cases, there will be a little bit of rear ride height added. That being said, there's always significant improvement to rear ride height when loaded enough to engage the springs, as the springs get more solid as you add weight...

  • Suspension Enhancement for 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Towing Forest River Wildwood Travel Trailer
I recommend the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-209-40 since you are already using a weight distribution hitch for load leveling. These will help to absorb bumps and suspension shock giving you a more cushioned ride. With this type of suspension enhancement you won't need to worry about air pressure like you will with air bags, and they are progressive so they will firm under heavier loads providing you more support.

The overall height of the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TGMRCK25S is 7-1/4" with the included spacer installed or 6-1/4" without the included spacer installed. If the 6-1/4" is too tall for your lowered 2001 Chevrolet Silverado you can use the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-209-40 for 1500 or part # SSR-211-54 for 2500/3500 models. It does come with some extra parts that won't be used for all installations since the springs do fit a wide range of different model years. The 1500 lb springs are 1/4 inch longer at 11 inches and they are also slightly wider. This is what helps them have the higher support capacity. The 1500 lb option also has the ability to utilize a spacer if you want them to engage sooner. Assuming your towing capacity is 4,700 lbs, you can safely tow a 3,500 lb trailer. In fact, 2wd trucks typically have a higher towing capacity than 4wd trucks and long bed trucks, or trucks with longer wheel bases, hold up better to towing issues such as trailer sway and traction control. I checked the owners manual for your truck and it only discusses the towing capacity for the 6.0L engines, but according to Trailer Life Magazine's towing guides, your truck should have a 4,700 lb towing...
